Winter, so soon?  Get Ready with a Honey Do List from Greenland Volunteer Fire!

Fall Burn Permits - Request a burn permit at least 24-hours in advance.

Permits are needed for brush fires and chimineas.

Chimney Inspection & Cleaning

If you use a chimney to vent your heating system (oil, gas, coal) or for a wood or coal stove, get it inspected by a professional before winter arrives.  Avoid a chimney fire!

Have E.D.I.T.H. stop by - Exit Drills In The Home

While the weather is still nice, practice a home fire drill during the day and at night.  Make sure everyone meets at the same location.  Remember to call 911 after you exit the home.

Heating System Cleaning & Inspection

Be on the safe side, have your heating system cleaned and inspected by a professional this fall.

Change the Batteries

Change the batteries in your home’s smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.  Don’t forget to test them monthly!

Reflective House Numbers

Place 4 inch or larger reflective house numbers on both sides of your mailbox.  It’s easier for us to find you in an emergency, especially at night!

Wood Stoves - Who doesn't love them?  Link to our safety reminders.
    Ashes - don't forget!

  • When removing ashes from a wood stove – make sure the stove is cold.  Don’t risk removing live embers from the stove.
  • Always empty ashes into a metal container that may be sealed.
  • Always store the ashes in a sealed metal container away from your home and all combustibles.  Don’t store the container on your wood deck.

Be a good neighbor.  If you're not sure if your neighbor is OK, be sure.

If you are concerned and unable to reach your neighbor, request a well being check from the Greenland Police.  Call dispatch at (603) 772-4716.
