Greenland Volunteer Fire Department's Tanker
It has arrived!
Greenland Volunteer Fire Department took delivery of a 2008 KME, 3,000
gallon capacity tanker in December 2008. T-1 replaces Engine 1, a 22-year
old engine that was used as a tanker with a 1,250 gallon capacity.
T-1 is Greenland’s first official
tanker! A tanker is a significant addition to the Department and Town,
considering the number of homes within Greenland that do not have a fire
hydrant near by. A tanker’s role is to deliver water to a fire scene when a
hydrant is not available. The tanker is filled from the nearest hydrant, it
delivers the water to a fire scene, off-loads the water into a portable pool
then returns to the hydrant and continues this process until water is no
longer needed. The new tanker includes significant and required safety
features for our Firefighters. If you would like to see the new tanker
please stop by the Fire Station for a tour.
The Greenland Volunteer Fire
Department thanks the Town of Greenland for its continued support of the
Fire Department.
