Greenland Police Department
In the 1960s

In the 1960s, responded to numerous brush and grass fires.  GVFD consisted of 30 active members and 15 inactive members.  Inactive members were trained firefighters who would respond, if called, for large fires.  Monthly fire training was held for all members and a firefighter trainee program for 16-21 year olds was instituted to recruit new members.

At this time, the Greenland fire alarm system consisted of 5 red phones.  If an alarm was struck, the red phones would ring at the Chief and Assistant Chief's houses, Clifford Flander's home, the Fire Station and H & H Oil.  In 1967 the department  purchased Plectrons to notify members of a fire.

In 1962 the Greenland Volunteer Fire Department purchased a used 1952 Ford fire truck.
