SCBA Firefighter Rescue Escape Device Training - December 20, 2006

Greenland Volunteer Fire Department has purchased new Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) packs with a portion of a grant we received in 2006 from the US Department of Homeland Security.  Each new SCBA pack has an integrated self contained emergency egress systems - Firefighter Rescue Escape Device (FFRED).

FFRED is a belt that contains 50 feet of Kevlar webbing, a carabineer and braking device.  This safety feature allows firefighters to exit a structure through a window and repel to the ground safely, if all other means of egress are blocked.  After use the Kevlar webbing is repacked for future use.

The Firefighter Rescue Escape Device weighs 4 pounds.
The 50 feet of webbing can hold over 5,000 pounds!
